The MapBiomas Degradation module provides data on the drivers of degradation of Brazil’s native vegetation from 1986 to 2023. The drivers include: patch size, number of patches, patch morphology, edge area, edge age, canopy disturbance, selective logging, fire frequency, time since the last fire, isolation and age of secondary vegetation. The beta-version canopy disturbance and selective logging data are available for the Legal Amazon from 1988 to 2024.

It is possible to access interactive maps, tables, and graphs on the drivers of native vegetation degradation in Brazil, with data organized by different territorial areas. The platform allows users to search for information by biome, state, and municipality, as well as by land use categories such as conservation areas, indigenous lands, rural settlements, and quilombola territories. Data and analyses can also be downloaded using the “Create Analysis” tool. See the platform’s guidelines for downloading maps and statistics.
