MapBiomas is continuously developing new products and initiatives. Each year, a new collection of land cover and use maps is released, improved and extending to cover the new period. Alongside this, it also hosts events about the collections, featuring external guests and discussions on the work done and the prospects for land use monitoring and its applications in Brazil. realiza eventos sobre as coleções com a participação de convidados externos e com discussões sobre o trabalho realizado e as perspectivas de monitoramento do uso da terra e suas aplicações no Brasil.

MapBiomas Collection 8 data present 38 years of Brazil's annual land use and land cover maps at a 30 m scale. Among the new features are the inclusion of two new classes (Floodable Forest and palm oil). Thus, this collection has a total of 29 mapped classes. The launch event occurred on August 31th, 2023, in Brasília(BR) and can be watched through the video below:

MAPBIOMAS SOIL

The MapBiomas Soil Beta Collection presents annual maps of soil organic carbon (SOC) in Brazil for the period from 1985 to 2021, developed using field-collected soil sample data available in the SoilData repository (http://soildata.mapbiomas.org/) Cross-references with land cover and use data were based on Collection 7.1 of the Annual Land Cover and Use Maps of Brazil series. The launch event took place on June 21, 2023, online, and can be viewed in the video below:

MAPBIOMAS FIRE – COLLECTION 2 LAUNCH

The data from MapBiomas Fire Collection 2 present the impacts of fire on the national territory from 1985 to 2022. During this period, Brazil burned an area equivalent to the combined size of Colombia and Chile. The collection launch event took place on April 26, 2023, at IBAMA headquarters in Brasília – DF, and can be viewed below:

7TH MAPBIOMAS ANNUAL SEMINAR - COLLECTION 7

MapBiomas Collection 7 data present 37 years of Brazil's annual land use and land cover maps at a 30 m scale. This collection has 27 land use classes mapped. The launch event occurred on August 26th in Brasília(BR) and can be watched through the video below:

6TH MAPBIOMAS ANNUAL SEMINAR - COLLECTION 6

The MapBiomas Collection 6 data present the 36 years (1985 to 2020) of Brazil's annual land use and cover maps at a 30 m scale with improvements in biome accuracy and new agriculture classes. In this collection, the new IBGE limit of 1:250,000 scale biomes has already been used and has 25 mapped classes. The launch event took place on August 27, 2021, and can be seen in full below.

MAPBIOMAS WATER – COLLECTION 1 LAUNCH

Where is the water that was here? Data from Collection 1 of MapBiomas Água presents the analysis of satellite images of the entire national territory between 1985 and 2020 and indicates a clear trend of loss of surface water in all hydrographic regions, in all biomes of the country. Check out the event below:

MAPBIOMAS FIRE – COLLECTION 1 LAUNCH

Data from Collection 1 of MapBiomas Fogo present the impacts of fire on the national territory over 36 years (1985 and 2020). In each of these years, Brazil burned an area larger than England: 150,957 km² per year, or 1.8% of the country. The accumulated for the period reaches practically a fifth of the national territory: 1,672,142 km², or 19.6% of Brazil, with 65% of the total burned area being native vegetation. The event can be seen below:

On August 28, 2020, during the 5th Annual MapBiomas Seminar: Revealing land use in Brazil with science and transparency, Collection 5 of the annual maps of land cover and land use in Brazil was launched. Among the novelties of Collection 5 are deforestation and regeneration data, such as the rate of loss of native vegetation by biome and views of the territories where, proportionally, there is more secondary vegetation. The event was online and can be seen below:
