MapBiomas Fire Collection 4 presents the annual and monthly mapping of burned areas (fire scars) in Brazil from 1985 to 2024, including: (a) Annual burned area (b) Monthly burned area (c) Burn frequency (d) Cumulative burned area (e) Fire scar size (f) Year of last fire occurrence. Annual, cumulative, and frequency data are also available by land cover and land use classes from MapBiomas Collection 9.
For more information on the methodology, based on 30-meter resolution Landsat satellite imagery processed with machine learning techniques, access the method description.
Annual Fire Report (RAF) – 2024 Edition
On June 24, 2025, MapBiomas launched Collection 4 of MapBiomas Fire and released the first Annual Fire Report (RAF) in BrazilThe RAF provides consolidated data on spatial and temporal fire patterns across Brazil's biomes and other territorial categories between 1985 and 2024, including the main affected land cover/use classes and fire frequency across the national territory. Access to Maps and Data
The maps and data are publicly and freely available through the following means:
1. MapBiomas Fire Platform: https://plataforma.brasil.mapbiomas.org/fogo
This platform offers an interactive map viewer and allows downloading of tables and charts organized by different territorial units such as biomes, states, and municipalities, as well as land tenure categories like protected areas, indigenous territories, rural settlements, and quilombola territories.
2. MapBiomas Fire Toolkit
To download Collection 4 maps via Google Earth Engine click the link. Pixel value definitions for each sub-product are available via the Legend Code, accessible through the link.
