MapBiomas updated the document on Indigenous Territories (ITs) Launched last year. The April 2023 version includes land cover and use information with 2021 data from Collection 7.1.
Furthermore, the document entitled “7 facts about Indigenous Lands in Brazil” presents the growth of the mining area in ITs in the Amazon between 2020 and 2021, highlighting the Indigenous Lands with the largest mining areas, and the Indigenous Territories with the greatest number of airstrips.

Indigenous Territories are among the main barriers against the advancement of deforestation in Brazil. In the last 30 years they lost only 1.2% of their native vegetation area, while in private areas the loss was 19.9%.
Indigenous Lands occupy 13.9% of Brazilian territory and contain 115.3 million hectares of native vegetation, which corresponds to 20.4% of native vegetation in Brazil in 2020.
