The 4th edition of the MapBiomas Award, held in partnership with Instituto Ciência Hoje, ended on August 9, 2022, with an online ceremony to announce the winners and present their work. This year's edition aimed to encourage applications and works that use data from any MapBiomas initiative, module or product, including initiatives from other countries such as MapBiomas Amazônia, Chaco, Bosque Atlântico and South American Pampa and Indonesia. The 4th Edition of the MapBiomas Award
In this edition the awarded works were divided in four categories:
- General Category:: Works regardless of age and education level;
- Young Category: Works whose first author is under 30 years old and has not completed graduation or completed it throughout 2021;
- Highlight Applications in Public Policy: Works regardless of age and education level.
- New Category - Highlight Applications in Business: Works regardless of age and education level.
Winners in each category will be awarded as follows:
- 1st place in General Category – value of R$ 15,000.00 (fifteen thousand reais);
- 2nd place in General Category – value of R$ 10,000 (ten thousand reais);
- 1st place in the Young Category – value of R$ 10,000 (ten thousand reais);
- 2nd place in the Young Category – value of R$5,000 (five thousand reais);
- Highlight Applications in Public Policies – value of R$ 10,000 (ten thousand reais);
- Highlight Applications in Business – value of R$ 10,000 (ten thousand reais).
All winners will receive an annual subscription to Ciência Hoje Digital Magazine, in addition to a scholarship for a course about Geoprocessing of satellite images using o Google Earth Engine (promoted by Solved), and the production of a short video (up to 2 minutes) about the winning work.
