The land cover and land use classifications of the MapBiomas collections are based on Landsat mosaics. For each IBGE 1: 250,000 chart, in each of the years evaluated, a specific mosaic was produced. Each mosaic is produced by the spatial integration of the different Landsat scenes present in each card and by the temporal integration pixel by pixel. These time intervals were defined according to the variation in the phenology of plant types in each of the Brazilian biomes and cross-cutting themes, as a strategy to improve the classification results.
The mosaics are generated in IBGE 1: 250,000 charts for each year containing up to 102 bands and indexes per pixel, including time and fraction metrics of the Spectral Mixing Model. For more information, see items 3.1 and 3.2 of the ATBD Geral.
