Julia Shimbo, the Scientific Coordinator of MapBiomas, won the Sustainability category at the second edition of the Todas Award, which honored 12 women leading the way in various technological fields. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Todas Award, promoted by Folha de S.Paulo<\/em> news corporation in partnership with the Alandar consultancy, was announced on December 8. According to a report by Folha, \u201cthe women who won each of the ten award categories use technology to expand rights, inclusion, opportunities, and the quality of life for Brazilians.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Julia, who is also a researcher at IPAM, was recognized for her work in producing data that supports the fight against deforestation, the newspaper highlights, adding that the ecologist\u2019s goals include making scientific data accessible so that knowledge can be used across different fronts.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn a crisis, we need to act quickly. And technology brings the possibility, through this collaborative work and open science, for us to generate data rapidly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At MapBiomas, the participation of women scientists and technology professionals, as well as those in leadership roles, has been increasing. This was evident during the 10th MapBiomas Annual Seminar, which featured the launch of Collection 10 of the annual land cover and land use maps.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
