MapBiomas 10 Meters Collection 2 (beta), using data from the Sentinel-2 satellites, covered the years 2016 to 2023 and applied similar methods and the same legend for land cover and land use classes as MapBiomas Brazil Collection 9 (up to legend level 3). Improvements will be implemented in future collections, as this product is constantly being developed.

Among the improvements in this second collection was the inclusion of three new classes, such as the floodable forest in the Amazon and aquaculture and apicum (hypersaline tidal flat) in the Coastal Zone. The platform also includes the searching by CAR (Rural Environmental Registry) code or geometry drawn by users.

“The second MapBiomas 10 Meters collection was updated for the year 2023. Its higher spatial resolution in the annual land cover and land use mapping contributes to more detailed analyses, especially of rural properties. Using higher resolution images also allows us to refine the mapping of some classes, such as riparian forest in Permanent Preservation Areas (APP) along rivers and springs,” says Marcos Rosa, MapBiomas technical coordinator.

“The second collection is still in beta version; therefore, it should be used cautiously, especially for comparisons between years and with other products with different spatial resolutions. In each new collection, we have improved the mapping and included new classes. Even in the beta version, the accuracy is close to collection 9, which allows us to make the data available to contribute to various applications and, at the same time, receive suggestions that help us improve the upcoming collections” says Julia Shimbo, MapBiomas scientific coordinator.

The data can be accessed on the MapBiomas platform:

https://plataforma.brasil.mapbiomas.org/cobertura_10m

For more information about the method and to download the data, visit the webpage: https://brasil.mapbiomas.org/mapbiomas-cobertura-10m/

13 de março de 2025 A Coleção 2 (beta) do MapBiomas 10 Metros, produzida a partir de imagens dos satélites Sentinel-2, traz mapas anuais de cobertura e uso da terra no Brasil de 2016 a 2023.
